Contingent on course offerings and student demand, to begin approximately January 2027, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, design, deliver, and assess instruction in Chemistry lectures and labs in terms of course competencies and institutional and program level student-learning outcomes. Develop and/or update course content and materials and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to:
    • Improve student attainment of learning outcomes;
    • Address the learning needs of the college's diverse students;
    • Integrate thinking and writing skills into course content, as appropriate; and
    • Use technology to support instruction.
  • Plan, organize, and independently carry out independent instructional and non-instructional assignments. Perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited to, preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about course work (one office hour per week per three-credit class). Regular workload may include evening and weekend classes, continuing-education classes, distance-education classes, and teaching at off-campus sites.

    Non-teaching duties include:
    • Working collegially to provide service to the department and college,
    • Engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise,
    • Engaging in professional development, and
    • Engaging in professional or scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching.
    • Development of state-of-the-art lecture curriculum, and learning technologies for on campus and/or online courses
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry; OR
  • Master's in Chemical Engineering, Geochemistry, Chemical Oceanography, Organic Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Chemical Physics, or Environmental Chemistry with 18 credits of advanced coursework in Chemistry or Biochemistry. ("Advanced coursework" is defined as 300- 400-level courses offered in a bachelor's program.)

Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment.

Desirable

Qualifications:

  • Successful teaching of courses in general chemistry, organic chemistry, or biochemistry at the post-secondary level, as substantiated by student and peer assessments.
  • Evidence of ability to work in a collegial manner with peers, department chairs, and administrators.
  • Evidence of experience integrating scientific writing, technology, quantitative reasoning, and critical thinking into chemistry instruction to support students' ability to analyze data, communicate scientific ideas, solve problems, and apply chemistry concepts in real-world contexts.
  • Ability to write clear prose as substantiated by an attached one to two-page statement and/or publication.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the community college, including open access, student success, equity, and support for diverse learners.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and complete projects with clear goals, measurable outcomes, and use of evidence to inform improvement.
  • Demonstrated capacity to contribute to departmental and/or campus-wide initiatives that advance high-impact educational practices, including student-centered and innovative teaching strategies, integration of undergraduate research experiences, ?aina-based education, STEM pathways, service-learning, and other efforts that foster active student participation, scholarly inquiry, and connections to cultural and environmental stewardship.
  • Experience with course design, delivery, and assessment across multiple instructional modalities, including in-person, hybrid, online, and technology-enhanced formats, using learning management systems, digital tools, and student-centered assessment strategies to promote engagement, accessibility, and learning.
