SW - Substitute Teacher for Lab School

Substitute(s)-Chaminade University Montessori Laboratory School

The substitute is an on-call support staff position hired on a part-time basis as needed to support

Carry out the plans and directives of the Administrator and/or Montessori Teacher and abide by all licensing and accreditation standards.

Assist with the set-up and the maintenance of the Montessori prepared environment. This includes but is not limited to making materials and activities, cleaning, sweeping, mopping, dusting, moving furniture, and other chores necessary so that the environment is clean, aesthetically pleasing, and safe for the children.

Prepare snacks, refill supplies as needed, and do other tasks as required to support the teaching staff and Administrator.

Participate in staff meetings as applicable and in-service training as needed.

Attend school functions as requested

Support teaching staff by redirecting children as needed to allow teachers to continue working with the children and/or observe as needed.

The list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and is subject to change on an as-needed basis and/or in the sole discretion of supervisory management.

Minimum Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Proof of a criminal record clearance.

A physical examination clearance for work with children aged two to six.

A current TB screening

Member of the Early Childhood Systems Patch Registry with the qualification of Aide for group child care centers and homes.

Student should maintain a current GPA of at least (2.5/3.0)

Communicates clearly and respectfully with teachers, students, and families; follows and delivers classroom instructions accurately.

Quickly builds positive rapport with students; fosters a cooperative, inclusive learning environment during transitions.

Adapts and organizes classroom materials and learning spaces for temporary assignments; maintains accurate records of activities.

Prioritizes tasks and manages time effectively to support instructional goals and classroom routines.

Adheres to program timelines and substitute procedures.

Demonstrates attention to accuracy and quality in work; maintains confidentiality and upholds high integrity and ethical standards.

Must be capable of meeting the physical demands of employment

Must be capable of bending, reaching, running, and carrying up to 50 lbs.

Must be capable of moving furniture and arranging classroom activities

Must be capable of standing for prolonged periods of time.

Must have finger dexterity.

This is a Part-time Non-Exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.

Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
