Japanese Lecturer Position

University of Hawai'i, Kapi'olani Community College, Languages, Linguistics, & Literature Department is seeking applications for the Japanese lecturer position. The position involves teaching courses in the assigned subject area, preparing course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress, assessing student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes, submitting self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations, working under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area, maintaining one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week), and classes may be offered online, evenings and/or weekends.

Minimum qualifications include functionally native oral and written fluency in Japanese, the ability to communicate in English, and one of the following:
Master's degree in Japanese (language or literature); OR Master's degree in Japanese as a Second Language; OR Master's degree in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Japanese; OR Master's degree in Linguistics, ESL, Education or another language. At least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, Japanese literature, Japanese culture, or any combination thereof.

Desirable qualifications include teaching experience at the community college level, demonstrated ability to work with community college students, work experience related to the course to be taught, demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively, and familiarity with competency- and outcomes-based instruction.
