JOB SUMMARY:

Sacred Hearts Academy is a Catholic college preparatory school dedicated to providing girls and young women with an exceptional education that inspires them to become compassionate leaders in their communities and in the world. Under the direction of the Principal, the High School ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction that promotes proficiency in the Hawaiian language while honoring Hawaiʻi’s culture, history, and values. The Teacher plans and implements effective lesson plans that support the Academy’s faith-based mission and educational goals, fostering both academic growth and personal development among students.

The Teacher creates a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment through active supervision, positive interactions, and clear expectations. Instruction encourages critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and confidence, empowering students to develop strong communication skills in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and a deeper appreciation for Hawaiian ʻike and heritage. The Teacher supports students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual growth in alignment with Sacred Hearts Academy’s Catholic values.

The Teacher maintains open and professional communication with school administration, colleagues, parents, and guardians regarding student progress, academic performance, behavior, and overall well-being. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate and timely documentation, such as lesson plans, assessments, grading, and progress reports. The High School ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi Teacher actively participates in the life of the school community and supports a learning environment where young women feel supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed.

This is a long-term, part-time position teaching one high school ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi course, with compensation provided through a stipend.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field. (degrees and course credits must be earned from a nationally or internationally accredited college or university)
  • One year of experience teaching Hawaiian Language and Hula, Chant & Dance at the elementary/high school level – OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed above.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary.
  • Must be able to understand, read/ write in English to follow basic instructions, and take, direction from supervisors and clients.
  • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy.
  • Able to work all required shifts and possible extended hours.
  • Ability to implement faith-based curriculum consistent with the Academy’s Catholic mission.

DESIRED

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
  • Three years of teaching experience with a robust understanding of content area curriculum and effective instructional methodologies.

OTHER

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough knowledge of the subject area(s) to be taught and ability to develop interdisciplinary curriculum related to subject matter.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods that are age appropriate for assigned grade levels.
  • Ability to work with and encourage students in the assigned grade levels toward accomplishing their personalized educational goals.
  • Ability to differentiate and personalize instruction to meet varying student needs.

    Manage small and large groups of students in various instructional environments.

    Communicate effectively with students, parents, counselors, and school administrators.
