Dean (CC)

The Dean for Division II is responsible for the development, supervision, and improvement of instruction and curricula in this division, which includes the departments of Math/Business, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences; and coordinates the College's efforts in career and technical education.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates the instructional activities of Division II. Attends system-wide administrative seminars/workshops and meetings and represents the College in appropriate inter-institutional and system-wide committees and work groups.
  • Support and guides faculty to develop and revise curriculum and programs to advance the institution and the communities we serve.
  • Maintains systematic coordination and communication among and between instructional units and other units in advancement of institutional goals of the College.
  • Interprets, develops and makes recommendations for policies and procedures.
  • Oversees curriculum development, implementation, promotion, and assessment in both traditional and non-traditional classroom settings, including early college, incarcerated, and distance education; expedites the development of new programs and/or courses (feasibility studies, program proposals, program reviews) appropriate to the Division and the College's mission.
  • Supports institutional efforts in developing, promoting, and assessing learning outcomes attainment.
  • Develops the staffing plan for Division II. This includes preparation of position announcements, and developing and maintaining a current lecturer pool listing and preparation of hiring documents.
  • Schedules and conducts meetings.
  • Provides for and coordinates selected workshops and non-credit courses offered in conjunction with the programs assigned to the Division.
  • Responsible for development of the Schedule of Classes for Division II to meet the needs and goals of the institution.
  • Provides for collection, review, and dissemination of data and information related to ongoing activities of the College (e.g. data flow to/from: Department Chairs/faculty, other elements of the College, and the Systems Office).
  • Guides Department Chairs in the development of teaching assignments and workload of faculty.
  • Ensures complaints and grievances related to instructional matters are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner in accordance with policy.
  • Provides effective leadership in the recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of highly qualified and proactive faculty and staff. Assists Department Chairs and the College in the hiring process for Division II faculty and staff.
  • Manages annual reports and assessments for assigned units.
  • Carries out the strategic plan in Division II. Participates in institution-wide strategic planning and assessment.
  • Coordinates assessment activities in Division II.
  • Provides leadership for accreditation activities in Division II.
  • Supervises and provides for instructional support services for the faculty and staff and programs of Division II. Supervises clerical and professional support staff assigned to the Division, including work schedule, evaluation and personal development.
  • Provides for the continued support of the faculty to grow and develop professionally. This includes the review of grant proposals and notifying faculty of appropriate workshops, conferences, and other staff development activities.
  • Supervises full- and part-time faculty and lecturers in Division II. This includes classroom observations, evaluations, and recommendations for contract renewal, tenure, and promotion.
  • With the Dean for Division I, provides orientation for new lecturers, faculty, and staff.
  • Assists Division faculty in complying with health and safety aspects of instruction.
  • Assists faculty in developing professional development plans.
  • Provides information related to instruction for students and public. Working together with the Dean for Division I and the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, assists with the production of the schedule of classes, monitoring registration and adjusting the schedule as needed for the benefit of the students and the College.
  • Assists in the preparation of brochures and fliers related to instructional activities of Division II.
  • Assists in the production of the College catalog.
  • Coordinates preparation and execution of instructional budget for the Division. Manages budgets within the Division. Explores and assists with securing extramural funding.
  • Reviews requisitions and insures compliance with purchasing guidelines for instructional supplies, equipment and equipment maintenance.
  • Prepares requests for lecturer/overload and monitors related costs.
  • Participates in biennial and supplemental budget preparation and executes the budget as appropriate.
  • Works closely with faculty, staff, and senior administrators to ensure that Division II effectively supports the College mission.
