Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs, services, and activities that support student veterans and military-affiliated students which may include working outside of normal business hours such as evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.Provide academic services and guidance to support the retention, graduation, and success of student veterans.Provide on-campus support and workshops to students on a wide range of topics (e.g. academic planning, financial aid, career exploration, learning strategies, college success skills, and graduate/professional school preparation).Coordinate, implement and evaluate a peer mentoring program for student veterans and military affiliated students, including recruiting, training, and supervising and evaluating peer mentors.Assist with collecting, maintaining, analyzing and reporting program data required for assessment, evaluation, grant compliance and performance reporting, in accordance with program, U.S. Dept. of Education and campus guidelines and requirements.Monitor student progress and identify students who may benefit from additional support, referrals, interventions, or campus and community resources.Assist in completing electronic/online narrative, evaluative and statistical reports.Coordinate program communication, including maintaining and updating program web pages, listservs, newsletters, and social media.Assist with hiring, training, and supervising student employees and casual hires.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in liberal arts, social science, arts and humanities, science, education, business, public administration or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for N/A; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of student affairs and student success, including student veterans and military affiliated students demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with higher education and federal grant programs.Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of student affairs and student success.Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and utilize social media.Ability to effectively advise and provide programs and services to meet the needs of student veterans and military affiliated college students.Knowledge of and familiarity with VA regulations and requirements for educational benefits.Familiarity of college student basic needs, academic support programs, and community support services for student veterans.Ability to create and run virtual workshops and presentations on various computer learning platforms.Ability to develop and manage program website, listservs to communicate with program students, and social media.Knowledge of standard office procedures and computer software applications involving databases and electronic/online reports.Ability to manage sensitive information and files containing confidential student information.Ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.Ability to travel to and from co-location sites in a timely manner by means of personal vehicle with valid driver's license or comparable means of transportation to perform duties, which meets position needs.Ability to work outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed.Desirable Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education, Social Sciences, Social Work, or Liberal Arts or related field.
- Working knowledge of current practices in: student affairs, improving retention and graduation rates, learning skills and college success strategies, learning communities, and mentoring.
