Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages the Honors student lifecycle, including applications, interview logistics, course registration, overrides, student standing, senior project completion, and graduation coordination. Manages the course scheduling process by building schedules, coordinating General Education course applications/renewals, and collaborating with partner departments, the scheduling office, and the Registrar. Designs and implements program-level assessment systems, including creating and maintaining student tracking systems using Honors and university databases.
Tracks and maintains academic standing and confidential records for Honors and RAPS students across university software systems in compliance with UH policies. Convenes and liaison with the Honors Council, including scheduling meetings, summarizing student dossiers, and facilitating deliberations. Maintains day-to-day front-line operations and communications, serving as the primary contact for inquiries from students, families, faculty, administration, and alumni via email, phone, LISTSERVs, and the program website.
Oversees the administration of procedures in hiring of lecturers, processing faculty overloads, and other personnel procedures. Plans and provides onsite coordination for key program events, including recruitment, student orientations, seminars, and graduation ceremonies. Manages the budget and oversees equipment, facilities, supply inventory and requests. Supervises and trains graduate and undergraduate student employees. Provides administrative support to the Honors Director, Faculty, and Lecturers / Instructors.
Liaises with University Housing office and other UH units to provide information on Honors students and programs. Designs and implements online communications and information strategies including maintaining and updating the Honors website and Makalei portal. Works collegially within a team while maintaining high levels of productivity when working autonomously. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in arts and humanities, social sciences, science, education, business or public administration or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for academic programs and activities; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of academic programs and activities as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with academic services. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
