Job Summary
Hawai’i Pacific University (HPU) is a private, non-profit institution of approximately 3,500 undergraduate and 800 graduate students. Founded in 1965, it is Hawaii’s largest private university with its core campus in the heart of Honolulu’s business district.
Hawai`i Pacific University, Graduate College of Health Sciences is seeking candidates for a full-time core faculty position at the rank of assistant professor for its hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Primary teaching responsibilities are anticipated to include Human Physiology, Pharmacology, and Capstone. Additional teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on program needs and the faculty member’s areas of expertise.
This position is available for an immediate start, with the anticipated start date determined in coordination with the successful candidate.
This accelerated two-year DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities which allows the faculty member to live remote to the HPU Honolulu campus. However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Honolulu for designated time periods each academic term.
Successful candidates should possess excellent communication skills and strong computer skills to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format. We desire a team-oriented colleague who is willing and able to collaborate and share instructional methods and student-learning activities. We are eager to identify candidates who show a genuine appreciation of evidence-based teaching, integration of technology within the classroom, and building a student-centered community within the online classroom.
Additionally, the successful candidate will understand higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership and instructions in physical therapy education; knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy. The candidate should be licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Hawaii or the state of residence.
We seek a collegial individual who either has a terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities (Ph.D., Ed.D,
D.Sc., etc.) or a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT), with specialist certification.
In addition to instructional, service, and scholarly activity, they will participate in commencement, convocations and other university-wide events, and department and collegiate meetings in the week before the start of academic terms. Faculty presence and engagement is expected during academic terms that faculty have teaching responsibilities.
Location / Position DetailsThis is a remote, full-time, 12-month (36-credit) exempt faculty position with up to 30 credits of teaching over the calendar year with instructional terms in spring, summer, and fall. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications. Regular travel to the state of Hawaii is required.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Earned Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT) or terminal doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, etc.) from an accredited university.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
- Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy education.
- Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting physical therapy education, students, and the profession of physical therapy.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in Hawaii or the state of residence.
- Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
- Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) in physical therapy or related field.
