This posting seeks to fill at either the Energy Forecaster or Senior Energy Forecaster; whichever level is most suited to the qualifications of the applying candidate.
Responsibilities Associate Energy ForecasterJOB FUNCTION:
Supports the Energy Forecasters and Senior Energy Forecasters with the energy planning and analyses efforts related to the development of the energy and demand forecasts for the Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island, and Maui County systems that support strategic and operational planning initiatives. Provides technical support with expanded assignments in the Company’s corporate planning initiatives and policies.
- Assists with the development of the Company’s long-term kilowatt hour sales, customer and peak demand forecasts. Analyzes information, data, statistics, and prepares annual short-term kilowatthour sales, peaks and customer forecasts by rate schedule and by company division. Monitors and coordinates sales trends and provides monthly kilowatthour sales variance reports and analysis.
- Supports long-range resource planning activities and works with planning departments to develop strategies and scenarios for analysis, facilitate discussion, and present analytical results.
- Researches and evaluates political, regulatory, and technical changes related to long-range resource planning including renewable energy, energy efficiency, demand response, and renewable substitution technologies.
- Plans and carries out complex or innovative analyses, developing new or improved techniques for market research, DSM program evaluation, and load studies; provides technical support for databases and data analysis methods.
- Contributes written testimony, exhibits, and work papers to support forecast methods for rate cases and regulatory filings.
- Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned.
Basic Qualifications (Knowledge Requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, planning, economics, engineering or related field.
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis methods (e.g., regression, ARIMA).
- Working knowledge of basic power system concepts (power vs. energy, generation, transmission, distribution).
- Proficiency with software applications including spreadsheets, presentations, word processing, statistical modeling, and databases.
- Working knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to the company’s planning process.
- Working knowledge of utility economic analysis, rates and tariffs, scenario planning, and clean energy goals.
Skills
- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Strong project management, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to research and obtain data from diverse sources and maintain data quality.
- Ability to identify issues, adapt plans, and work under multiple deadlines.
- Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; familiarity with database management and statistical software preferred.
Experience
- Several (3-5) years in planning, forecasting, engineering, statistics, economics, finance, or analysis of technical data.
