Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage facilities projects of various sizes and budgets through planning, design, procurement and construction to final completion at various geographical locations across the state.
  • Review, direct, and manage design consultants from project inception to completion. This includes but is not limited to site studies/space planning and reports, design drawings, plans, and specifications and/or any other related document for project completion prepared by consultants for compliance with Federal, State, City codes and regulations, this includes compliance to any University design requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and oversight during all phases of projects. This includes but is not limited to preparing and/or reviewing project scoping, project schedules, project programming, cost and quantity estimates, bid documents, bid document amendments, bid analysis and award, bid and construction request for information (RFI) responses, Change Order analysis, consultant and contractor invoices, construction submittals and final walk through documents for the successful completion of a project.
  • Manage the construction of various repair, maintenance and renovations projects.
  • Ensure projects comply with UH's Design Guidelines, identify value-engineering ideas, actively observe construction and commissioning activities, visit construction sites and write observation reports, and confirm delivery of turnover-to-operation deliverables.
  • Conduct Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC), pre-construction, inspection, final inspection and any other meetings as required for the successful completion of a project.
  • Design small remediation projects in-house, as well as manage and coordinate various third-party consultants to facilitate remediation projects of all sizes.
  • Provide technical assistance, recommendations, and architectural solutions to campus planning, operation, maintenance, and other University department units.
  • Troubleshoot and recommend solutions to resolve operational and maintenance problems. Coordinate with internal departments for building renewal projects and assessments, corrective engineering, preventative and deferred maintenance.
  • Work with Facilities in-house trade shops and UH's Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) in efforts to make the Campus a safe work environment.
  • Work and communicate with various university department to identify building issues and its resolution/remediation. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, members, and individuals.
  • Work and collaborate with the University s Office of Project Delivery (OPD) and Campus Operations and Facilities (COPF) on projects and work orders representing CTAHR s interests.
  • Participate in department operations planning and emergency response efforts.
  • Utilize Trimble and/or other online project management software as needed for projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering or Engineering and 5 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for design, construction, and/or contract administration related experience involving the application of industry principles and practices; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of design and construction as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, city and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with site development and building design and construction, hazardous material testing and abatement.
