A Civil Engineer V performs difficult professional engineering work in supervising and participating in the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of civil engineering projects.
What You Will Do- Supervising preliminary and final surveys
- Designing structures such as reservoirs, retaining walls, bridges, culverts, tunnels, pipelines, sewers, sidewalks, highways, etc.
- Assigning subordinate engineers and inspectors to construction projects
- Settling disputes between contractors and inspectors
- Approving construction changes
There are multiple vacancies across various departments within the City and County of Honolulu:
- Three vacancies with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS), Capital Projects Division.
- Two (2) vacancies in the Design & Plan Review Branch
- One (1) vacancy in the Construction Management Pipeline Section
- Three vacancies with the Department of Design and Construction (DDC).
- Two (2) vacancies in the Civil Division
- One (1) vacancy in the Facilities Division
- Seven vacancies with the Department of Environmental Services (ENV).
- Three (3) vacancies in the Collection System Maintenance Division
- Three (3) vacancies in the Environmental Quality Division
- One (1) vacancy in the Wastewater Engineering & Construction Division
- Two vacancies with the Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM), Storm Water Quality Division.
Actual salary commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.

Education RequirementEquivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.

One year of registered professional civil engineering experience.
License Requirement- Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license, as required.
- Possession of a valid license as a professional Civil Engineer in the State of Hawaii.

Applicants with a current out-of-state professional Civil Engineer license must obtain their Hawaii license prior to appointment.
