Looking for an opportunity to make an impact? Leidos is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer to join our team. As a Substation Physical Engineer, you will work on projects for electric utilities at voltages from 12 kV up to 500 kV. This field in the power systems industry provides exposure to how power generation, including renewable energy, ties into the electric system.
You will apply knowledge of digital logic design and AC/DC circuits to design substation electrical projects.
- Execute substation physical projects and perform quality control checks on substation physical designs.
- Read and design substation physical drawings such as one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, plan-section drawings, foundation, and grounding drawings.
- Create and check bill of materials for substation physical projects.
- Attend site visits at customer locations to support design and project execution.
- Collaborate with a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians; work with client standards to implement design.
- Experience with substation physical design at mid, senior, or lead levels:
- Mid-Level: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with 2+ years of related substation physical design experience.
- Senior-Level: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with 4+ years of related substation physical design experience.
- Lead-Level: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with 8+ years of related substation physical design experience.
- Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal teams and clients to meet project needs; ability to meet deadlines under pressure; ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently as needed.
- Willingness to travel to project/client sites and to the Portland, OR office as needed.
- Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Working knowledge of protection and control design; experience with bus calculations; experience with WinIGS or CDEGS;
Master’s degree in related field.
