Position Overview:
The Permits Planner serves as the company’s expert on land use permits and approvals, obtaining governmental permits for Transmission & Distribution (T&D) and generation projects. The role manages requests, maintains relationships with government agencies, and ensures timely approvals.
- Provide advice and guidance on permit requirements, lead times, and cost‑sharing policies.
- Maintain positive relationships with federal, state, and local agencies; expedite approvals and ensure timely processing.
- Administer policies and procedures to obtain permits; serve on task forces and committees; negotiate changes to statutes and regulations.
- Review and monitor Hawaii State Legislature and Honolulu City Council bills related to land use; draft testimony and represent the company at hearings.
- Review, modify, and submit permit applications; track progress and provide status reports.
- Coordinate with external consultants and support the section’s work.
- Participate in emergency response activities as required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, environmental science, or urban planning.
- Knowledge of government permit and approval requirements; working knowledge of federal, state, and city laws.
- Proficient with computer software such as Excel, MS Word, and MIMS.
- Willingness to apply LEAN and Safe Start principles.
- Professional Engineer or certified Planner registration in Hawaii preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and maintain flexibility.
- Valid Hawaii driver’s license.
- 5–7 years of experience managing governmental permits and approvals.
Hiring range: $89,100 – $113,700.
