Department: Engineering Reports To: Sr. RF Engineer
About Banyan NetworksAt Banyan Networks, we are Hawaii’s premier network integration firm, dedicated to building mission‑critical communications infrastructure. We design and deliver Public Safety-grade networks for local governments, critical infrastructure operators, and enterprise clients who demand reliable, high‑performance connectivity. As we expand our capabilities, we are seeking a talented RF/Microwave Engineer to join our engineering team and help shape the next generation of resilient wireless systems.
Position OverviewThe RF/Microwave Engineer will design, develop, integrate, and test high‑frequency RF/microwave components and systems. This includes antennas, amplifiers, filters, combiners, couplers and transceivers for applications such as microwave, unlicensed PTP/PMP, distributed antenna systems (DAS), and LMR telecommunications systems. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with hands‑on experience and a collaborative, solution‑oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the design and simulation of RF systems using industry‑standard tools
- Support the development of test procedures and perform evaluation of RF system performance
- Contribute to the troubleshooting and optimization of RF systems in both laboratory and field settings
- Document findings and produce detailed reports on design performance and testing results
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate RF solutions into larger systems
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
- Optimize designs for performance, cost, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, and field teams to integrate RF subsystems into broader network solutions.
- Select and qualify components in coordination with suppliers and vendors.
- Write clear documentation including design specs, test plans, and technical reports.
- Stay up‑to‑date with emerging RF technologies and propose solutions that enhance system performance or simplify integration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, with a concentration in RF/Microwave Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in RF/microwave system design and testing.
- Proficiency in RF design and propagation tools (EDX, Pathloss, etc.).
- Experience with RF measurement equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, cable/antenna analyzers, etc.).
- Solid understanding of impedance matching (VSWR, RL) in cable/antenna systems, noise and interference mitigation, link budget analysis, modulation schemes, antenna selection and the impact of each on overall RF system performance.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
