Distribution Engineering Supervisor – Oahu, HI

This position leads a team of 5-8 engineers in developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems, primarily 4kV to 138kV, including programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspections, maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports. The role requires oversight of day‑to‑day assignments, technical lead responsibilities, training, on‑boarding, performance management, and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Lead team of 5‑8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV mainly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
  • Develop work packages using GIS, CAD, WMS, and other client systems.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day assignments for direct reports and ensure project scope, schedule, and budget are maintained.
  • Serve as technical lead for engineers and designers, developing construction work packages that include engineering calculations and constructability concerns.
  • Train junior engineers and designers, as well as entry‑level designers and technicians.
  • Oversee on‑boarding and performance of direct reports.
  • Review work provided by clients and assess scope requirements.
  • Communicate work progress, technical issues, and schedule with clients.
  • Ensure compliance with Leidos and client safety requirements, design, and quality expectations.
  • Develop permitting documents for various AHJ’s.
  • Coordinate with permit agencies, right‑of‑way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and third‑party owners for joint‑owned poles.
  • Travel to sites and client meetings as needed.
  • Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Conduct QAQC reviews of work by other engineers for submission to clients.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards are met.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience with NESC Standards, Micro Station and/or AutoCAD, and Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
  • Proven successful experience in designing distribution systems for OH, UG, or URD environments.
  • Experience with ESRI and GIS a plus.
  • Experience with distribution design tools such as O‑Calc and SAG
    10 are a must. BOUD, Pole Foreman, and Spida‑Calc experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to review other engineer designs and have a detailed eye for errors.
  • Experience monitoring scopes and tracking others’ work progress.
  • Prior team leadership experience a plus.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.
  • Overnight travel may be required (15‑25% travel).
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments.
  • Ability to utilize personal vehicle.

$73,450.00 - $
