DESCRIPTION:

The P SS POWER QUALITY CUSTOMER SOLUTIONS & SERVICES Department of the P CUSTOMER SOLUTIONS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional)

JOB FUNCTION:

Serves as a technical resource in power quality, power systems, control systems, commercial electro-technologies, data acquisition and instrumentation, and the optimization of customer end-use technologies. Prepares customer systems site assessments, project proposals and financial analyses, and acts as project engineer/construction manager for power quality and efficient customer end-use technologies programs/projects in the commercial, governmental, and residential sectors. Performs customer technology applications research, investigation, planning and implementation in collaboration with key customer accounts and EPRI resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide consultation services to major commercial, industrial, and residential customers focused on power quality, efficient end-use technologies, equipment selection/sizing, economic feasibility, maintenance, and solving operational issues; advise on demand reduction and power factor optimization strategies; identify demand response opportunities.
  • Support, develop, implement, and plan Power Quality programs and services (commercial and residential), including on-site monitoring and educational outreach; schedule and present workshops.
  • Co-develop with EPRI and Grid Power Alliance the Open PQ Dashboard to improve customer power quality and support grid modernization.
  • Conduct field surveys and site inspections; design and install power quality and data acquisition instrumentation systems and software as needed.
  • Advocate the use of new clean energy and electro-technologies that reduce customer bills and improve operations.
  • Collaborate with internal partners (engineers, account managers, Risk Management, Customer Service, Legal, Demand Response) to identify, develop, and critique new opportunities for customer technology applications, projects and services; troubleshoot and document power quality claims.
  • Serve as project engineer and construction manager for RD&D and related power quality projects, including scheduling, budgeting, vendor management, and customer interface.
  • Work with System Operations and Engineering to integrate and optimize Power Quality within the Company.
  • Research and pursue applications of electro-technologies (HVAC&R, lighting, energy storage, power factor correction, voltage ride-through devices, harmonic filtering, data analytics, Internet-based data collection, etc.).
  • Stay informed on industry power quality trends, customer technologies, clean energy, and related tech impacting customer bills and operations.
  • Participate in Company emergency response activities as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements
  • Electrical or Mechanical engineering degree (B.S. or M.S.) from ABET-accredited college or university required.
  • Hawaii Professional Engineer (PE) license desirable.
  • Detailed knowledge of engineering theories/principles relevant to job responsibilities: electrical power systems (utility and in-building), distributed renewables and storage, emergency generators, power quality, HVAC&R, control systems, data acquisition, and remote communications.
  • Hands-on experience with direct digital controls (DDC) and HVAC&R equipment is desirable.
