The Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP), Building Division, Electrical Code Branch is seeking a registered professional Electrical Engineer to review complex and major building electrical projects. In this role, you will ensure electrical plans comply with the National Electric Code and applicable regulations, evaluate new or alternate materials and devices for safety and suitability in buildings and structures.
What You Will Do- Review and approve electrical plans, specifications, and calculations for major buildings and structures
- Work with architects, engineers, and the public to ensure electrical designs meet code and answer questions about design
- Coordinate with electrical inspectors to ensure field installations match approved plans and code requirements
- Explain electrical engineering decisions in writing and recommend updates to the electrical code as needed
Actual salary commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non‑citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education RequirementEquivalent to graduation from a regionally‑accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.
Experience RequirementOne year of registered professional electrical engineering experience.
Desirable Electrical Engineering Experience- Experience reviewing or designing electrical systems for buildings or building infrastructure
- Familiarity with electrical codes and electrical plan review processes
- Applying electrical engineering principles and practices to building projects
- Evaluating and reviewing electrical system designs
- Interpreting and applying the National Electrical Code
- Reviewing electrical plans and specifications for buildings and structures
- Analyzing electrical designs and checking calculations
- Preparing engineering reports and written correspondence
- Communicating effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and the public
