The Department of Design and Construction (DDC), Facilities Division, is seeking an organized and meticulous Supervising Project Manager! This full‑time, permanent position, located in Honolulu, involves administering, directing, and coordinating Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and Operating Budget projects related to the planning, design, renovation, restoration, and space management of City buildings, facilities, parks, recreational areas, and grounds.
WhatYou'll Do
- Lead section operations by organizing, directing, and supervising activities to achieve Facilities Division goals and objectives.
- Manage engineering and architectural projects from planning and design through construction support and project completion.
- Supervise engineers and architects by assigning, scheduling, reviewing, and guiding work on multiple projects.
- Coordinate project requirements by managing permits, clearances, cost estimates, specifications, and project schedules.
- Develop policies and process improvements to support project quality, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
- Represent the Division at meetings, hearings, and field sites to present projects and address project‑related concerns.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Work schedule is Monday‑Friday from 7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
- May be exposed to construction and traffic hazards, sewage gases, sewer treatment chemicals, paint fumes, noise, electrical hazards, and moving equipment.
- May be physically required to perform field investigations which include climbing ladders, descending into trenches, tanks and manholes, crawling through pipes, carrying sampling, measuring, and testing equipment, and walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces.
- May work shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays in case of emergencies, unusual problems or workload.

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education RequirementEquivalent to graduation from a regionally‑accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an architecture or engineering specialty.
Experience RequirementMust be able to:
- Supervise and lead staff and section operations
- Assign, monitor and evaluate engineer subordinates
- Apply engineering and architectural principles and practices
- Manage planning, design, and construction projects
- Prepare plans, specifications, estimates, contracts, and reports
- Oversee procurement and contract management activities
- Understand program and project funding processes
- Plan, direct, and coordinate major programs and activities
- Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and public events
- Serve as a technical expert and resource in assigned areas
- Prepare and justify budget requests
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, agencies, consultants, contractors, and the public
- Communicate effectively in public meetings and group settings
