TheDepartment of Design and Construction, is looking for aSoil & Material Testing Technician II to perform basic techniques and methods of material testing for quality assurance and sampling for soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt materials for use in City-wide projects in accordance with City, State, and Federal procedures
What You'll Do:
- Perform laboratory and field testing on construction materials including soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO standards to verify compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Collect, transport, and document material samples including coring pavements, conducting in-place density tests, and preparing chain-of-custody and test reports to support quality assurance and acceptance decisions.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate testing equipment and laboratory vehicles while ensuring facilities, tools, and materials remain clean, organized, and inspection-ready.
- Support construction site monitoring and inspections such as stockpile sampling, plant monitoring, site reconnaissance, and post-emergency damage assessments.
- Follow strict safety protocols in laboratory and field environments, including participation in required safety training and reporting unsafe or defective equipment.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities of the position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States of a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
One year of work experience at, or reflective of, the next lower level (Soil & Material Testing Technician I).
** The next lower level in this job series is a Soil and Material Testing Technician I. Examples of work at this level includes assisting with laboratory and field testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt materials in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO procedures. Experience should demonstrate the ability to collect and document samples, perform basic material tests, operate and maintain testing equipment, record and prepare test data, and follow established safety practices.
Qualifying experience may include supporting quality assurance and acceptance testing activities under the supervision of professional engineering or senior technical staff.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required. The current vacancy requires a valid Type 3 (automobile) license, prior to appointment.
