ResponsibilitiesThe Engineer VI supervises the professional and nonprofessional personnel of a major engineering activity; develops procedures and standards for carrying out their specialty in the organization, and represents the organization with authority on technical engineering matters within the area of specialization; may direct a large engineering section or assist in directing a large engineering division or district office as a technical specialist in planning, development, design and/or research;
may lead the efforts of a team engaged in carrying out difficult or critical project assignments with emphasis in the area of specialization; or serves as a staff specialist responsible for overall control and coordination of a number of major and complex engineering projects or programs; and performs other related duties as assigned.
- State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
- MUST POSSESS a valid State of Hawaii Professional Engineer license at the time of application.
- A bachelor’s degree from a four‑year accredited college or university in engineering. Relevant substitutions apply.
- Applicants who will graduate within three months and will meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements upon graduation will be accepted for examination. Submit a copy of your official transcript of coursework completed thus far and a letter from your department head or registrar verifying your current enrollment and expected graduation date and major.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience, with at least one (1) year comparable to the Engineer V level.
- One (1) year of supervisory or staff advisory experience as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements.
- Valid driver’s license (some positions require possession).
- Substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements apply.
