Engineer IV, V - Construction Management Section

Overview

This posting is being used to fill various Engineer positions at the specified location. The authorized level of the position is Engineer V. Applications are being accepted down to the Engineer IV in the event of recruiting difficulties.

The posted salary range indicates potential compensation, not necessarily starting salary. New external hires typically begin at the initial step. Placement above the initial step may be considered based on position requirements, exceptional qualifications, budget availability, and other relevant factors, all requiring prior approval. Current Hawaii State Department of Education employees will be placed according to Department regulations and applicable collective bargaining agreements.

Positions and salary examples:

• Engineer IV, EN-24: $8,465.00 - $10,804.00 per month
• Engineer V, EN-26: $9,141.00 - $11,669.00 per month

All applicants must meet one of the requirements specified in A, B or C below:

• A. Graduation from a school of engineering in an accredited college or university.

  For some positions, graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in physics, mathematics or chemistry may be accepted as qualifying, provided the applicant has had at least 15 credits in engineering sciences, common to all engineering disciplines, e.g. thermodynamics, statics, electrical science, applied mechanics, engineering drawing, strength of materials, etc.
• B. Administrative, professional or technical experience involving the application and knowledge of the fundamental physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering including physics, chemistry, mathematics through integral calculus and engineering sciences such as statics, dynamics, strength of material, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and engineering drawing and other specialized courses to one of the branches of engineering. Such experience must be substantially equivalent to the knowledge and understanding gained by completion of a college training leading to a Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• C. A combination of college training in engineering and experience mentioned in B substantively equivalent to completion of a college training leading to a Bachelor's degree in engineering.

* For the Engineers IV and V levels, at least one year of the required engineering experience must have been experience comparable to the next lower level.

For the Engineer V level, supervisory potential rather than actual supervisory experience may be accepted.
