Location:
Honolulu – Oahu
Salary Range: $109,900 – $142,600 per year.
Job FunctionSupervises, plans, and coordinates the overall operations of the T&D Engineering section, providing design engineering, project management, standards development, and general engineering duties to support capital construction projects and customer service requests for Hawaiian Electric.
Essential Functions- Supervise, plan, organize, and direct operations of a T&D engineering section to support energy delivery capital construction programs and customer service requests.
- Initiate, assign, oversee, review, and approve design specifications, contracts, and construction standards, conduct engineering and economic studies, manage capital expenditures, and coordinate with internal and external parties.
- Develop performance and productivity measurement criteria, evaluate progress, and implement actions to maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Manage all personnel matters, including performance appraisals, training, safety coordination, and disciplinary actions.
- Participate in emergency response activities as assigned.
- Ensure section members align with company policies, mission, vision, and values.
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited engineering school in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with at least 8 years of experience or 5 years of design experience.
- Thorough knowledge of power engineering design, project management, standards development, and construction methods associated with electric utility facilities.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and utilities laws.
- Proficiency with personal computers and software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, project management, and presentation tools.
- Knowledge of company budgeting and forecasting systems and procedures.
- Understanding of LEAN continuous improvement and Safe Start principles.
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills with effective written, oral, listening, and presentation abilities.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and conceptual skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to remain flexible and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
- Capability to develop and guide engineers to independence and leadership.
- Professional interpersonal skills for handling confrontational or sensitive issues with tact and discretion.
- Must be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license.
- Extensive (8–15 years) experience in design and project engineering for electric utility facilities, including 5 years of design in a specific area of expertise.
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
- State of Hawaii Professional Engineer License in a relevant discipline.
