Job Overview
As an Environmental Planner you will work in a dynamic team environment with other environmental planners, engineers, environmental scientists, ecologists, and regulatory experts. The position will include primarily office work, with some field work and travel for meetings and conferences.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and deliver multi-disciplinary environmental services including environmental planning, permitting, NEPA and HEPA environmental documents.
- Assist with all aspects of a project: client contact, budget control and invoicing, schedule, personnel allocation/planning, public‑interest facilitation, technical approach, and subcontractor involvement.
- Coordinate with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, local governments; manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Conduct and direct desktop and field research, impact analyses, and prepare technical documentation.
- Mentor junior staff.
- AICP or ENV SP certification desired.
- Thorough understanding of technical environmental impact analysis methods and sound knowledge of NEPA/HEPA requirements and related regulations.
- Working knowledge of NRCS project requirements an asset.
- Team oriented, strong ability to motivate others.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; experience presenting at public workshops and facilitating meetings.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple planning projects and motivating self and others to achieve goals.
- Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize heavy workloads while adapting to a mobile environment.
- Ensure QA/QC and Health & Safety requirements are identified and followed throughout project life cycle.
- Collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, teammates.
- Highly motivated self‑starter.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
ArcGIS and SharePoint a plus. - Field work ability in all weather conditions.
- Travel flexibility as needed for projects and meetings.
- Good driving record with a valid driver’s license.
- B.S. in planning or related engineering/environmental discipline; master’s degree desirable.
- Five or more years of experience performing analysis, consulting, and providing recommendations for various clients.
- Experience working with state/local departments in Hawaii, including county departments (Honolulu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii).
- Experience working with local subconsultants.
- Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
Salary will be based on skills and qualifications. Excellent benefits are included. The work environment includes prolonged sitting and computer work, with occasional travel (approx. 25%). You may visit study areas and be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
