Position: MECHANICAL ENGINEER with Security Clearance
Duties
* You will act as a lead troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of problems encountered during installation, grooming, or testing phases.
* You will serve as a mechanical engineer who performs engineering and planning duties in connection with the repair, maintenance, and alterations of fluid/mechanical ship systems for submarines and surface ships.
* You will interface with various activities, production shops, and ship's force to coordinate and develop plans for the repair of fluid/mechanical ship systems.
* You will conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, and analysis for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems. These engineering evaluations may be used to support Departures from Specifications (DFS)
* You will identify material requirements and resolve material deficiencies.
* You will plan, develop, and define engineering guidelines and objectives to be applied in the technical areas of work. Requirements Conditions of employment

* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
* This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
* This position requires exposure to high noise levels. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Engineer applying professional engineering theories, concepts, and principles to provide planning and technical direction for shipyard fluid or mechanical systems projects on submarine and surface ships systems and components and ensure adherence to shipyard processes, operations, and engineering standards.

Education Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics;

(b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties…
