Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer in Oahu, HI (Relocation Available!) who is passionate about electric utility design engineering.
Responsibilities- Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, Conventional UG, Network UG, Make Ready and Street Light projects using customer GIS and WMS systems such as SAP and Bentley Expert Designer.
- Review work provided by client and assess requirements of scopes.
- Work in both field and office settings, trained in customer engineering and construction standards.
- Support pole structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and calculations of electric demand and fault currents.
- Develop estimated costs for projects and creation of BOM.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities, field engineering design requirements, and develop design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easement and ROW applications; and design of mainline vault medium voltage switch gear, network system design and distribution system protection and coordination.
- Perform reviews of work by other engineers for submittal to clients.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
- Comply with Leidos and client safety requirements as well as design and quality expectations.
- Travel to customer jobs as anticipated, up to 15‑25% travel; overnight travel may be required and will be reimbursed at IRS approved rates.
- Ability to utilize personal vehicle.
- 4+ years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institution preferred; additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- Experience with OH framing and design, UG distribution design, UG network projects, voltage conversion projects, road widening projects, major underground projects, conductor replacements, and OH to UG conversions.
- Experience with MH/Duct system requirements and designing within building and street transformer vaults.
- Experience with NESC standards.
- Proficient with O‑Calc and line design as well as SAG
10 analysis. - Experience with AutoCAD and/or Microstation for electrical distribution design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to utilize personal vehicle.
- EIT/FE credentials or PE license.
- Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, SOCKET, and Spida‑Calc.
- Experience with Hawaiian Electric design standards.
