Distribution Engineering Supervisor – Oahu, Hawaii
Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in Oahu, Hawaii who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. This role involves leading a talented team and ensuring high-quality delivery of electrical overhead and underground distribution system projects.
Location & RelocationThis position is based on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Candidates are expected to relocate to Oahu to support our local utility customers, projects, and team. We welcome qualified candidates from across the United States and offer a competitive relocation package for eligible hires.
Responsibilities- Lead a team of 5‑8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV.
- Manage projects in grid hardening, substation optimization, joint use make‑ready, street light projects, and other programmatic work.
- Develop work packages using GIS, CAD tools, WMS, and other client systems.
- Oversee day‑to‑day assignments for direct reports.
- Provide technical leadership for engineering calculations and constructability concerns.
- Train junior engineers, designers, and entry‑level technicians.
- Maintain project scope, schedule, and budget with the Engineering Manager.
- Review client work and assess scope requirements.
- Communicate progress, technical issues, and schedules to clients.
- Comply with Leidos and client safety, design, and quality expectations.
- Develop permitting documents for different authorities and coordinate with permit agencies and right‑of‑way specialists.
- Travel to sites and customer meetings as needed.
- Perform engineering calculations for pole loading, guying, conductor sag and tension, voltage drop, and flicker.
- Conduct QAQC reviews of work by other engineers for submittals.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles.
- At least 4+ years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited institution; additional experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with NESC Standards, Micro Station and/or AutoCAD, and Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
- Proven experience designing distribution systems for OH, UG, or URD environments.
- Experience with ESRI GIS is a plus.
- Proficiency with distribution design tools such as O‑Calc and SAG
10 (experience with BOUD, Pole Foreman, and Spida‑Calc is a plus). - Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail in reviewing engineering designs.
- Experience monitoring scopes and tracking work progress.
- Prior team leadership experience a plus.
- Willingness to perform both field and office work; overnight travel may be required (15‑25% travel).
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and use a personal vehicle.
