Job FunctionSupervises, plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages the overall operations of an engineering section to provide design engineering, project management, standards development, and general engineering duties in support of capital construction projects, customer service requests and reliable operations of Hawaiian Electric.
Essential Functions- Supervises and directs the engineering section operations to support Energy Delivery capital construction programs and customer service requests.
- Initiates, assigns, and approves design, materials, contracts, equipment, and specifications; conducts engineering and economic studies.
- Manages capital expenditures and the section’s capital program budget; secures consultant resources and negotiates agreements.
- Develops and evaluates staff performance, establishes productivity metrics, and implements actions to meet scope, schedule, and budget.
- Administers personnel matters, including performance appraisals, interviews, recognition, and disciplinary actions; develops training plans and coordinates safety training.
- Participates in company emergency response activities as required.
- Promotes company policies, mission, vision, and values; ensures cultural alignment.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (or professional experience may satisfy);
State of Hawaii Professional Engineer license required. - 8+ years of engineering experience in design, project engineering, standards development, and construction methods for power utilities; at least 5 years in a specific area of expertise.
- 8–15 years supervisory experience (highly desirable).
- Strong knowledge of Federal, state, and local regulations; familiarity with EUSERC, NESC, tariff, and telecommunication attachment processes.
- Proficiency in project management software, spreadsheets, word processing, and rapid learning of additional tools.
- Ability to use Company budgeting and forecasting systems.
- Knowledge of LEAN continuous improvement and Safe Start principles.
- Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license.
