The Department of Environmental Services, Wastewater Engineering and Construction Division has three (3) vacancies for an Engineering Support Technician III in Honolulu. There is one vacancy each in the Plant Engineering Branch, Collection Systems Engineering Branch, and Construction Management Branch. This position performs the most difficult and complex subprofessional, technical functions in general support of the licensed engineers to fulfill the responsibilities of the Branch.
What You Will Do
- Perform technical and professional work related to the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of assigned programs, facilities, or projects.
- Perform project control functions and support Standard Operating Procedure development and documentation.
- Conduct research, field inspections, investigations, and analyses to evaluate conditions and develop recommendations.
- Prepare, review, and maintain reports, plans, specifications, records, and other technical documents.
- Coordinate and communicate with staff, contractors, agencies, and the public regarding assigned work activities.
- Assist with budget monitoring and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, standards, and safety requirements.
The Department of Design and Construction, Mechanical/Electrical Division, has one (1) Engineering Support Technician III vacancy in Honolulu. This position performs difficult and complex technical functions in support of professional engineering activities including database management of existing street lights, inventory maintenance of all City equipment on jointly owned utility poles with HECO, review and approval of trenching permits in City roads, gathering as-built data for CIP projects, and emergency response planning.
What You Will Do
- Review and process Joint Pole Applications which involves installing, replacing, or removing utility poles.
- Conduct on-site inspection at various locations.
- Coordinates work activities with maintenance personnel.
- Reviews and confirms pole loading calculations.
- Reviews, approves and records, all trenching permits in the roadway right of way.
- Receives certifies, scans, and files street light electrical as-built plans.

Minimum Qualification RequirementsAt the time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school with courses in mathematics. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Five years of technical experience in engineering oriented support functions such as in research, data collection and analysis, inspection, testing, designing, surveying and/or drafting activities. Must be able to:
