DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Electronics Technician Maintenance (ETM) III applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes. Work typically requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment.

Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices. This position may provide technical guidance to lower level technicians.

The ideal candidate will have ten (10) years of experience performing overhauls and repairs on any of the following shipboard electronics systems:
Commercial Broadband Satellite Program (CBSP), Digital Modular Radio (DMR), Navy Multiband Terminal (NMT), High Frequency (HF), Radio Frequency (RF), High Frequency Radio Group (HFRG), Tactical Air Navigation System (TACAN), Electronic Support Measures (ESM), or Naval Shipboard Antenna Systems.

REQUIRED SKILLS/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

The ETM III will demonstrate the following core technical capabilities and system-specific experience:

Mandatory System Training in Commercial Broadband Satellite Program (CBSP):
  • Must have completed formal system-specific training on either of the following variants:
    Unit Level Variant (ULV) AN/USC-69(v)3/A(v)3/B(v)3/C(v)3
    Force Level Variant (FLV) AN/USC-69(v)2/A(v)2
  • Must have complete understanding of electrical safety, raw AC/DC power handling, and Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Personnel (HERP/RF radiated power) protection.
  • Must have the ability to read, interpret, and execute steps in System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) documents, including all safety and security measures.
  • Must have proficiency in reading and interpreting shipboard installation drawings, including Installation Requirements Drawings (IRD), Ship Installation Drawings (SID), Ship Alterations (SHIPALT), and Liaison Action Requests (LAR).
  • Must have demonstrated experience with shipboard hardware installation, high-standard cable management, and conducting thorough physical inspections (checking for cable damage, correct labeling, and secure equipment mounting).
  • Must have hands-on proficiency in configuring and verifying settings on Cisco routers and network switches.
  • Must have experience configuring and managing cryptographic equipment, specifically the KG-175 TACLANE.
  • Must have a solid understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, basic routing, Access Control Lists (ACLs), and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
  • Must have familiarity with core cybersecurity principles, the purpose and application of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and standard vulnerability scans.
  • Must have understanding SATCOM architecture (ship/shore), SATCOM modem settings
  • Must have the ability to deliver detailed technical documentation and final system status reports upon project completion to ensure smooth cross-functional handoffs.
  • The ETM III must be competent in operating the following specialized tools to troubleshoot SATCOM links and electronic components:
    a. Digital Multimeter:
Perform basic AC (single-phase and 3-phase) and DC power verifications, alongside DC-bias troubleshooting of sub-level electronic components.
    b. Spectrum Analyzer:
Setup and display the Signal Of Interest (SOI),…
