Position Overview
A beloved retail chain with a long-standing presence in Hawaii is seeking a seasoned Senior Accounting Leader to oversee core accounting operations and financial close activities. This role provides hands-on leadership across general accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment. The position partners closely with operational and executive stakeholders, plays a key role in strengthening accounting processes, and helps ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial information that supports long-term business objectives.
This is a hybrid role with two to three days of in-office work.
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger management and core transactional accounting activities
- Oversee month‑end and quarter‑end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial results
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare financial schedules and documentation for audits, reviews, and tax filings
- Develop, document, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
- Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff, setting clear expectations and performance standards
- Partner cross‑functionally to support financial reporting, approvals, and business decision‑making
- Provide clear financial insights and communicate accounting expectations across departments
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP
- Proven leadership and people management capabilities in a high‑volume environment
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non‑finance stakeholders
- Process‑improvement mindset with experience strengthening controls and workflows
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Advanced proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA strongly preferred (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibility
- Demonstrated experience with financial close, financial statement preparation, and audits
- Background in a fast‑paced, complex, or multi‑entity organization strongly preferred
