Pay Range: $59,000 - $116,000

Individuals typically begin between the minimum to middle of the pay range

Performs financial accounting functions to support the association's monthly financial closing. Establishes and maintains subsidiary ledgers which support balances and ensures that entries are recorded in accordance with applicable accounting principles, government regulations, and IRS regulations. Also supports other finance and accounting (F&A) analysts and other business functions to record, reconcile and report on various financial transactions and contracts.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures proper recordation and reporting of various financial transactions for the Association and its Subsidiaries. Communicate with other F&A staff and internal departments to record and reconcile the following:
    • Prepare and post accruals for various general ledger accounts on a monthly basis. Develop estimates for accruals as needed by using source documentation and settlements amounts. Resolve discrepancies with appropriate staff/departments timely.
    • Record and analyze accounting transactions for various contracts or programs such as State EUTF, Retro Rated Groups, AFM Self Insured Groups, etc. Communicate effectively with other departments to gather this information. Provides assistance and performs research for various external and internal audits.
    • Assist and serve as a primary back-up to record transactions and prepare financial statements for all of HMSA's subsidiaries.
    • Maintaining various schedules and ledgers for the Association's general ledger accounts, including capital/fixed assets, prepaid amortization, lease liability, etc.
    • Create and run ad-hoc system reports to summarize transactions in the general ledger. Perform research and initiate adjustments if errors are identified.
    • Assist in supporting other accounting analysts as needed.
  • Reviews and reconciles assigned balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis. This includes cash revenue, receivable, liability accrual accounts, etc.
    • Analyze for significant fluctuations in account activity and account balances. Research the nature and causes of variances and fluctuations in these accounts.
    • Performs analysis independently with limited direction and supervision.
    • Presents findings and recommendations to other business areas and management.
    • Determine and perform appropriate correction of transactions if found to be in error.
    • Assist in supporting other accounting analysts as needed.
  • Prepare miscellaneous supporting schedules and reports such as supporting schedules to support monthly close process, reports used to support statutory filings, audit support for both internal and external audit requests, and other ad hoc reports.
  • Lead, coordinate, and participate in projects; function as project manager and leader for business and system projects; facilitate definition of project requirements and deliverables; influence the progress of team activities and the successful implementation of the project. Document and share project activities, analyses, and decisions. Develop, analyze, recommend, and enhance workflow processes related to project deliverables. Evaluates alternative solutions/decisions in light of the potential impact on internal/external resources;

    understands the resource implications of solutions and makes other potential recommendations.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.
