A well-established Hawaiʻi-based nonprofit focused on advocacy and civil rights is hiring a Finance Manager to own the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This is a high-impact role with real ownership — you’ll work closely with leadership, manage full-cycle accounting, lead systems upgrades, and help ensure the organization’s long-term financial health. WHATYOU’LL DO
- Support annual budget preparation, deliver monthly budget-to-actual reports to department leaders, and build financial forecasts for organizational planning and board reporting.
- Serve as the primary audit liaison, coordinate IRS Form 990 and state filings, and maintain all regulatory compliance requirements including DCCA filings, State Charity Registration, and TDI worksheets.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, record payroll journal entries, and reconcile bank and investment accounts on a monthly basis.
- Lead implementation of expense management tools, payment processing solutions, and automation connecting Quick Books with payroll (ADP) to streamline reimbursements and reporting.
- Conduct daily reviews of operating balances, manage inter-account transfers, and communicate material changes in cash position to leadership.
- Review and approve payroll submissions, coordinate onboarding/offboarding financials.
- Develop and maintain written financial procedures and internal controls; manage vendor contracts, W‑9s, and payment history.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years in accounting or financial management; nonprofit experience preferred
- Working knowledge of GAAP; experience supporting annual audits and 990 filings
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination
- Strong attention to detail, able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Self‑motivated with a collaborative, accountable work style
- CPA license or CPA candidacy
- Experience with , Expensify, Stripe, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with ADP, Tri Net, or other HR/payroll platforms
- Salesforce or comparable CRM experience
- Knowledge of Hawaiʻi’s nonprofit regulatory environment (DCCA, State Charity Registration, TDI)
