Duties SummaryThe General Professional VI plans, supervises and coordinates a staff of professional workers at the V level or supervises staff through subordinate supervisors at the V level; or serves as a technical expert in a highly specialized area and functions as the top-level essential to the development and direction of unprecedented initiatives having significant impact on all/most Executive Branch departments and which typically involves the application of state-of-the-art and/or "cutting edge" ideas, concepts, technology and/or issues;
and performs other related duties as assigned. One of the vacancy positions is located in the Employees' Retirement System (ERS), Retirement Benefits Branch, Benefits Section, in the Department of Budget and Finance. This position serves as the supervisor of the Benefits Section and is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing resources and activities relating to member benefits such as examining, developing, computing, adjudicating, authorizing, and reconsidering all claims and applications for retirement, disability and death benefits.
Duties and responsibilities include developing short and long-term plans consistent with ERS's goals and objectives; overseeing operational activities such as finalizing service and disability retirements, reviewing and adjudicating disability retirement benefits, death benefits for active members and retirees; resolving unprecedented and/or controversial claims and highly complex problems; and providing comments and recommendations and proposing amendments to new and existing laws, rules, regulations, procedures and practices.
The second vacancy position is located in the Retirement Benefits Branch, Neighbor Islands and Operations Support Section. This position serves as the supervisor of the Neighbor Islands and Operations Support Section and is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing resources and activities relating to ERS plans and programs for members on the islands of Hawaii, Kauai, Maui, Lanai and Molokai.
Duties and responsibilities include developing short and long-term plans consistent with ERS's goals and objectives; overseeing operational activities on the neighbor islands including counseling and assisting members, retirees, and/or beneficiaries with information regarding retirement, disability and death benefits, taxes, and contributions; outreach activities; resolving unprecedented and/or controversial claims and highly complex problems; and providing comments and recommendations and proposing amendments to new and existing laws, rules, regulations, procedures and practices.
