Reports To: Board Chair
Term: (2 years, renewable once)
Position SummaryThe Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial health and integrity of the organization. This role ensures proper financial management, compliance, and transparency, and helps the board make informed financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities Financial Oversight- Monitor the organization’s financial status and performance
- Review and present regular financial reports to the board
- Ensure accurate and timely financial recordkeeping
- Lead the development of the annual budget
- Track budget performance and recommend adjustments
- Support long-term financial planning and sustainability
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements
- Oversee preparation of tax filings (e.g., IRS Form 990 in the U.S.)
- Help safeguard the organization’s assets and internal controls
- Present financial updates at board meetings in a clear, understandable way
- Advise the board on financial strategy and risks
- Serve on relevant committees (e.g., finance or audit committee)
- Work with staff, executive leadership, and external accountants/auditors
- Support fundraising efforts by helping develop financial strategies and ensuring donor accountability
- Experience in finance, accounting, or related field
- Understanding of nonprofit financial practices (preferred)
- Ability to interpret financial statements and communicate clearly
- High level of integrity and attention to detail
- Attend regular board meetings (e.g., monthly via Zoom, Quarterly in person on a Saturday for 3 hours.)
- Participate in committee meetings as needed
- Additional time for financial review, reporting, and planning
- This is a volunteer position (unpaid)
- Must be located within the islands and be able to commute on your dime to Oahu 4 times a year.
