Responsibilities

Positions in the Investigator series perform and/or supervise investigations concerning suspected or actual violations of civil, administrative, and/or criminal laws, rules, regulations, or other legal requirements. As an Investigator II, you will perform a limited range of investigative activities, gather information, prepare reports, and complete other related duties assigned.

Assignments are limited in nature and scope. You will work under close supervision with higher‑level investigators, observe procedures, study case materials, interview individuals, secure documentary evidence, and learn investigative principles and techniques in preparation for higher‑level work. Your work will be reviewed for technical accuracy and adequacy.

Qualifications

Legal Authorization to Work
:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the State government to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Basic Education/Experience
:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university.

Specialized Experience (minimum six (6) months of progressively responsible professional investigative experience):

  • Initiative, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and judgment required to collect, assemble, and develop facts and other pertinent data.
  • Ability to think logically and objectively, to analyze and evaluate facts, evidence, and related information, and arrive at sound conclusions.
  • Skill in written and oral reports and presentation of investigative findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Tact, discretion, and capacity for obtaining the cooperation and confidence of others.

Driver’s License
:
Some positions require possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment. This position requires it.
