The position is responsible for providing comprehensive intake and ongoing support services to adult wards under guardianship. The responsibilities include conducting investigations of the ward’s residence to locate important personal documents and assets, coordinating with family members, caregivers, and service providers, and assisting with applications for public benefits and identification documents. The role involves extensive fieldwork—visiting clients, assessing their living conditions and well‑being, and ensuring their safety and access to necessary services.
The position also transports and accompanies wards to medical appointments, court appearances, and other essential activities; prepares required reports and documentation; purchases necessary items; explores community resources; and maintains accurate client records using designated software.
Graduation from high school. Experience of the type described below or work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for lack of high school education.
Specialized Experience RequirementThree (3) years of progressively responsible experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in such programs as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing; e.g., performing clerical tasks in processing various documents, transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations, explaining to clients or tenants the services available, assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming.
SubstitutionsAllowed
- Training received at an accredited college or university may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of three (3) years.
- Satisfactory completion of a social service aid and assistant curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college resulting in a Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science or related degree may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) RequirementIn accordance with the Federal PREA Law, the Hawaii State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities who:
- Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
- Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
- Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in b above.
- Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
