Job Summary
Boating and Ocean Recreation Harbor Agent responsible for operation and maintenance of harbors for light and medium draft vessels, small boat ramps, and monitoring and permitting of recreational and commercial activity in Hawaiian waters up to three miles from harbor boundaries.
Responsibilities- Assign berths and regulate vessel movements within harbors.
- Provide billing, fee collection, and enforce boating and harbor regulations.
- Inspect boats and maintain harbor facilities and equipment.
- Oversee recreational and commercial ocean activities within assigned waters and enforce compliance with state laws.
- Responsible for operation and maintenance of one or several small boat harbors under the least active and complex categories.
- Responsible for operating and maintaining assigned harbors or boat ramps and enforcing compliance with laws for recreational and commercial ocean activities in waters near and surrounding harbor areas.

Education & Experience- One year of full‑time work experience requiring reading and understanding instructions, simple writing, and basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). This may also be met by a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of full‑time experience involving person‑to‑person relationships, demonstrating abilities to: establish and sustain positive relationships; elicit and provide pertinent information; apply rules and regulations; and prepare clear, concise reports.
- Examples of acceptable experience include: harbor agents operating and maintaining projects or project areas and establishing relationships with clients and users; professional, para‑professional, or clerical workers who provide advice and guidance to clients.
Physical Requirements
- Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
- Ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted and 50 pounds assisted by another person or equipment.
Salary: $4,054 to $5,133 per month (SR‑14, Step C to I). Other benefits provided by the Department of Land & Natural Resources may apply.
