This recruitment is for a Department of Health position to fill an immediate vacancy. The role involves overseeing entomological research, development, prevention, and control of pests of economic and medical significance.
Salary Levels
Level II: $4,590 per month (SR-18, Step
D)
Level III: $4,961 to $6,043 per month (SR-20, Step D to I)
Level IV: $5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR-22, Step D to I)
Note: Starting monthly salary for Level II is at the minimum rate of pay, Step
D. For vacancies at Step D to I, hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
- Entomologist II:
Assists in the conduct of entomological research, development, prevention and control work; receives training in more advanced methods, procedures and techniques to supplement academic training; and performs other related duties as assigned. - Entomologist III:
Independently performs a limited range of professional entomological assignments; may serve as project leader; and performs other related duties as assigned. - Entomologist IV:
Independently performs analysis, evaluation and solution of complex entomological problems with statewide implications; may supervise lower level entomologists as assigned; and performs other related duties as assigned.
- Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
- Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in entomology or a closely related field, which included at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in entomology coursework.
- Specialized
Experience:
No experience required at the II level; one (1) year for Level III and two (2) years for Level IV, of progressively responsible professional work experience in entomological research, development, prevention, or control, including field and/or laboratory work. - Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required for some positions. For those positions requiring a driver's license, the applicant must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
