Responsibilities
Planner VI supervises and participates in a variety of major planning projects, serves as planner-in-charge for major planning studies or projects of the State's principal planning department, and overall coordinator of a major inter‑agency planning activity; performs related duties as assigned.
This class involves responsibility for major planning projects affecting private and/or public activity throughout the State. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and conducting such projects in accordance with general supervision and basic administrative and policy guidelines. Public contact to obtain cooperation and support is evident. May supervise a small staff of subordinate planners or operate without subordinates using departmental support services as needed.
Non‑supervisory positions exercise significant administrative responsibility in work activity management and coordination.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States (citizenship, national, permanent resident, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment).
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university.
- 4½ years of progressively responsible professional planning experience, including collection and evaluation of data, determination of public opinion and community objectives, and comprehensive prospective analysis of conditions.
- Experience must demonstrate actual involvement and responsibility for:
- A. Integration of information, considering relationships among resources, facilities, services, needs, and values to develop policy options, alternatives, and programs.
- B. Advising and assisting agencies and administrators on planning concepts and methods, providing technical information and analyses for the formation of plans.
- C. Formulation and presentation of plans and policy recommendations, including alternatives and consequences, to decision makers and at public hearings.
- At least one year of the experience comparable to the fully independent Planner V level in State service.
- Supervisory aptitude (or potential) may be accepted in lieu of actual experience.
- Driver’s license required for some positions (if applicable).
