Position Overview
State of Hawaii, Department of Health, Director’s Office, Office of Public Health Preparedness. The position is located in Downtown, on the Island of Oahu. Exempt, non‑civil service, full‑time, temporary appointment.
Job PurposeThe primary purpose of this position is to plan and conduct education and training activities to achieve emergency preparedness and response capabilities outlined in CDC National Standards for State and Local Planning. This includes department workforce training in National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS), community preparedness and recovery, emergency public information and warning, volunteer management, and other capabilities to help develop the State’s public health emergency preparedness capacity.
Salary$4,600 – $5,600 per month; salary commensurate with training and experience.
EducationGraduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree. An advanced degree in public health, emergency/risk management, education, social work, or epidemiology is preferred.
General ExperienceOne (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience that required a high degree of analytical skill. Such experience must have involved gathering, evaluating and analyzing facts and other pertinent information required to resolve problems and/or determine and recommend appropriate courses of action. It must also have demonstrated the ability to elicit information orally and in writing; read, comprehend, interpret and evaluate technical subjects, analyses or proposals;
and apply problem‑solving methods and techniques, such as defining and analyzing problems, identifying alternative courses of action, using judgment in determining appropriate alternatives; and preparing clear and concise written reports and recommendations for action.
One and one‑half (1 ½) years of progressive experience in a training, health education or related field. The applicant’s overall experience must have been of such a scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he or she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he or she is being considered.
LicenseValid State of Hawaii driver’s license is preferred.
