Overview

We are seeking an experienced, innovative individual to serve in dual leadership roles to ensure brighter futures for patients and families experiencing mental and behavioral health challenges across Hawaii, many of whom face social drivers that can impede their full potential. The University of Hawaii, John

A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Department of Psychiatry strives to eliminate health disparities among Indigenous Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific Island populations, as well as address the public mental health needs of severely mentally ill, rural, and remote populations within our Pacific Island home. Its community-focused research, scholarship, and quality improvement are guided by the Native Hawaiian value of Lkahi, where being servant leaders helps establish partnerships and teams that seek to achieve balance or harmony.

Behavioral Health Services at The Queen’s Health Systems provides comprehensive, compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and adults throughout Hawaii and the Pacific Rim, through living the Queen Emma Way, where CARE is the foundation. JABSOM psychiatry faculty are also an essential part of the care team working to create a healthier Hawaii within Hawaii Pacific Health at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children and Straub Benioff Medical Center.

Within this diverse state and matrixed organization, JABSOM is seeking an Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Hawai‘i John

A. Burns School of Medicine, who will concurrently serve as the Queen’s University Medical Group (QUMG) Chief of Behavioral Health. The JABSOM is a community-based medical school with numerous clinical affiliates across our island state. Psychiatry training occurs within the Queen’s Health System, at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, and across a larger network of clinics across the state, including the State Department of Health and mental health clinics on the neighbor islands, via in-person and telehealth visits.

Applicants must meet the qualifications to serve as a Medical School Department Chair at UH JABSOM and be able to hold a concurrent position as the QUMG Chief of Behavioral Health. More details are in the JABSOM job posting.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and concurrently hold the position of Queen’s University Medical Group (QUMG) Chief of Behavioral Health.
  • Engage in leadership, strategic planning, and collaboration across JABSOM, QUMG, Queen’s Health System, and affiliated clinical sites to advance behavioral health initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Qualifications to serve as a Medical School Department Chair at UH JABSOM.
  • Ability to hold a concurrent position as the QUMG Chief of Behavioral Health.
  • Demonstrated health-systems focused leadership and effective academic-health system collaborations.
