Summary

Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawai'i’s only maternity, newborn and pediatric specialty hospital. It is well recognized as Hawai'i’s leader in the care of women, infants and children. With 253 beds, the not-for-profit hospital delivers 6,000 babies a year, and is also a medical teaching and research facility. Specialty services for patients throughout Hawai'i and the Pacific Region include intensive care for infants and children, 24-hour emergency pediatric and adult care, critical care air transport and high‑risk perinatal care.

Over 1,400 employees and more than 700 physicians provide specialty care at Kapi'olani. The hospital is home to the Kapi'olani Women’s Center and the Women’s Cancer Center, and offers numerous community programs and services, such as specialty pediatric clinics, the Kapi'olani Child Protection Center and the Sex Abuse Treatment Center.

At Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides continuous acute care to newborns of up to three months, including meeting the complex psychosocial needs of both the child and their family. Nursing and medical support staff in the NICU work with the Neonatology team to care for premature babies and assist in pediatric surgeries, providing care to newborn infants with cardiovascular and/or respiratory disease and infants requiring treatments for various diagnoses including infection and surgery.

Support and education is delivered to patients and family in an atmosphere that promotes bonding of the family unit.

As the Physician Assistant, you are responsible for the direct care and treatment of neonatal patients, leading and performing patient evaluations, treatments, and performance of specialized technical procedures. You will serve as a subject matter expert and clinical resource to both staff and physicians, facilitating health education for family members, referrals to other disciplines, and consultation with colleagues and other allied health personnel.

Medical privileges are to be delineated and approved in accordance with the bylaws of the medical staff.

Physician Assistant

• Current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
• Current Hawai‘i Physician Assistant license.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) CPR certification.
• One (1) year experience in a NICU under the supervision of a Neonatologist.
• Ability to obtain prescriptive authority within two (2) years of hire.

• One (1) year advanced practitioner experience.
• Teaching and/or public speaking experience.
