Roles & Responsibilities
  • Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders
  • Provide professional consultations and collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, and therapists to ensure safe discharge planning
  • Perform clinical swallowing evaluations including FEES and interpret results to guide treatment plans
  • Document patient progress and maintain clear, timely clinical records
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to patient-centered care planning
  • Operate and maintain clinical equipment (endoscope, electrolarynx, vitalstim, augmentative communication devices) safely and effectively
  • Educate patients and families about communication and swallowing strategies to support recovery and safety
Qualifications
  • Current Hawaii State license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (required)
  • Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) (required)
  • BLS/HCP-level CPR certification (required)
  • Completion of a FEES course — must be completed within six months of hire if not already completed
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as an SLP in an acute care setting (preferred)
  • Prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP experience (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
  • Skilled in speech and language assessment and treatment
  • Expertise in swallowing assessment and dysphagia management
  • Proficient in cognitive-communication evaluation and interventions
  • Experience with FEES and familiarity with MBSImP protocols
  • Strong clinical consultation and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced acute care environment with medically complex patients
  • Competent with clinical documentation and common hospital devices and equipment
