Position: MEDICAL RECORD TECHNICIAN V (CORRECTIONS) - OAHU

The immediate vacancies are located at the Oahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) and Halawa Correctional Facility (HCF).

Salary: $3,606 to $4,388 per month (SR-11, Step C to I).

Medical record technicians are responsible for para-professional medical record functions at hospitals or allied medical care facilities subject to departmental policies and regulations.

Provide assistance to a higher-level medical record technician or to a medical record librarian by performing para-professional functions in a medical record department of a hospital or allied medical care facility; and perform other related duties as assigned.

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK REQUIREMENT: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • General

    Experience:


    Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of progressively responsible experience in a medical record department of a hospital or allied medical care facility, or in an allied health or medical program
    , which included such duties as filing medical records, posting data onto medical records, cross-indexing data, compiling numerical data from medical records or reports, typing medical reports, and work of a comparable nature.
  • Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:
  • Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
  • Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
  • Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.
  • Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.

Other Requirements: Applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into positions with the Department of Public Safety shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State or local laws or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive background check.
