Overview

Quarter Line (QL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is skilled and compassionate Phlebotomy Technician to join our dynamic healthcare team at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The ideal candidate will provide screening and registering blood donors, conducting health histories, vital signs, and eligibility assessments in compliance with FDA, AABB, GMP, and military blood program standards. Performs whole blood collection, apheresis, and therapeutic phlebotomy; monitors donors for adverse reactions and provides first aid/CPR as needed. Ensures accurate documentation, specimen handling, component processing, equipment operation, quality control, and proper storage of blood products to maintain safety and regulatory compliance.

• Performs donor registration and personal interviews to obtain medical histories and visual inspections of blood donors, ensuring donors meet all FDA criteria, current Good Manufacturing Practices, AABB, and the Armed Services Blood Program.
• Documents all medication, medical conditions, and travel to determine eligibility of potential donors based on judgment and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and regulatory guidelines.
• Screens subjects (volunteer blood donors, autologous, and therapeutic patients) donating blood and ensures that their blood is safe for use prior to donation. Takes vital signs and checks hemoglobin and/or hematocrit levels to determine eligibility to donate blood with no more than one collection of blood on unacceptable donors per month.
• Draws blood samples on adults; reviews collection kit to ensure all required information is present; determines types of specimens to be collected and if proper patient preparation has been accomplished; selects appropriate venipuncture site and cleans to ensure contamination-free field.
• Performs apheresis procedures by processing human volunteer apheresis donors, taking donor history, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hemoglobin. Conducts second overall assessment of donors.
• Performs allogeneic and autologous whole blood collection, and therapeutic phlebotomy procedures with 95% or greater rate of success and schedules whole blood, plasmapheresis, and plateletpheresis procedures.
• Monitors donors during the donation process and observes for possible donor adverse reactions; responds to donor reactions appropriately. Must be prepared to administer first aid, including CPR, and seek medical help as needed.
• Operates and performs daily preventive maintenance, repair, and quality control on blood bank equipment such as centrifuges, hematology instruments, blood mixer scales, hematology analyzers, and related equipment.
• Strips segments, weighs, and stores whole blood units; records information such as start and stop times of blood draws.
• Processes whole blood units into components; prepares collection kits and mobile drive collections, including setup and teardown.
• Operates blood bank computer systems to enter or recall data of donor registration and history, blood and component preparation, test results, labeling, and inventory control.
• Prepares collected samples for shipment and submission for infectious disease testing.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

• Degree/
  
  Education:
  
  High School equivalent and completion of an accredited donor phlebotomy program. Equivalency determination may be requested by the Contractor as a substitute for education requirements.
• Legal Authorization to Work in the United States:
  The contract worker must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Certifications:
  
  Certification/registration as determined by the ASCP or AMT, in addition to Basic Life Support.

• Occupational Health:
  Documentation of required physical testing or a physical examination is required.
• Tuberculosis Screening:
  Contractors shall be screened for TB prior to reporting for services.
• Health Requirements:
  Documentation certifying health requirements such as immunizations and physical examinations when required at placement.
