• Independently perform difficult workers’ compensation claims examinations and determine benefits.
• Conduct administrative hearings, make determinations, provide consultative services to claimants, insurance carriers, and employers.
• Prepare case files, recommend awards, and assist with claims processing.
• Assist trainees in training activities and perform other duties as required.

Must meet all state requirements for employment with the State of Hawaii.

Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree.

Level V and III:
At least one and a half years of general experience.
Level II:
At least one‑half year of general experience.
Level I:
No general experience required.

Experience must involve gathering, evaluating, and analyzing facts; identifying and evaluating issues; interpreting and applying Hawaii State Workers’ Compensation laws, rules, and regulations; and preparing clear written reports.

Level V:
At least two years of specialized experience.
Levels III, II, I:
No specialized experience required.

Specialized experience must include examination of claims for workers’ compensation benefits and awards, including conducting administrative hearings or acting as an advocate of a client in hearings.

Clerical work experience in the field of workers’ compensation does not qualify.

• Completed law‑school coursework equivalent to one half‑year of experience (maximum one and a half years) may substitute for general or specialized experience, except for level V.
• Excess specialized experience may substitute for general experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
