Job Title: Benefits Assistant/Coordinator

Department: Human Resources

Direct Supervisor: Assistant Director of Benefits

Pay:$19 - $22

Overview:

The Benefits Coordinator supports the administration, communication, and compliance of employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and leave programs. This role serves as a primary point of contact for employees, vendors, and internal HR partners, helping ensure employees understand and effectively use their benefits while maintaining accurate records and timely processes.

  • Assist with the administration of all employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, flexible spending accounts, wellness programs, and related offerings.
  • Process benefits enrollments, qualifying life events, changes, and terminations accurately and within required timelines.
  • Monitor benefit enrollment activity and follow up on outstanding employee actions.
  • Review and process routine benefit documentation, including dependent verification and qualifying life event documentation.
  • Provide employees with routine information regarding benefit eligibility, enrollment, and available benefit programs.
  • Assist with retirement plan administration, including participant communications and routine record maintenance.
  • Provide administrative support for leave of absence programs by opening cases, tracking required documentation, monitoring deadlines, coordinating return-to-work paperwork and other tasks related to the process.
  • Maintain accurate employee benefit records within HRIS and benefits administration systems.
  • Assist with Open Enrollment preparation, employee communications, and benefit materials.
  • Support routine benefit audits, eligibility reviews, and reporting activities.
  • Maintain confidential employee information and records.
  • Work collaboratively with Payroll, Human Resources, insurance carriers, retirement vendors, and third-party administrators to resolve routine issues.
  • Understand and support the Company's mission, vision, values, and guiding principles.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Able to manage and organize multiple concurrent projects effectively.
  • Able to foster and build relationships internally and externally.
  • Able to work effectively, meet deadlines, and accomplish team objectives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Office, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain benefits information clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to respond to employee inquiries timely with accuracy and empathy.
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits programs and common benefits terminology.

Education/Experience:

  • 1–3 years of experience in human resources, benefits administration, payroll, or a related administrative role.
  • Experience using HRIS, payroll, benefits administration, or carrier enrollment systems.
  • Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • This position typically operates in a professional office or hybrid work environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment and requires regular communication by phone, email, video conference, and in person.
  • Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces, including stores.
