Oversee HR operations for Honolulu Elks Lodge 616, supporting recruiting, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, training, and performance management on-site.

Responsibilities
  • With Lodge Department Managers, design and execute consistent, reproducible recruitment strategies across departments, including administration, facilities, restaurant, bar, and kitchen staff
  • Coordinate job postings, interview scheduling, background checks, onboarding, and associated documentation
  • Act as the primary point of contact for employee concerns and support conflict resolution
  • Support a positive workplace culture through employee engagement, recognition, and feedback mechanisms
  • Conduct internal investigations related to employee and supervisor complaints, including accurate documentation and timely resolution
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and job-specific employment laws (examples include wage and hour, labor relations, and safety) through PEO support or direct oversight
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential employee records for all Lodge 616 personnel, including volunteer board and house committee members
  • Assist with policy development and enforcement aligned with Elks mission and values and legal requirements
  • Ensure annual onboarding for volunteer Board and House Committee members is completed thoroughly and on time
  • Provide quarterly reports on the active employee roster by department to the House Committee and BOD
  • Partner with the Professional Employer Organization (PEO) to administer payroll and ensure alignment with community standards and Lodge Board guidelines
  • Educate staff and managers on benefit options and eligibility using the Employee Handbook and PEO resources
  • Maintain oversight of benefits (with PEO) and employee compensation in line with lodge, state, and federal policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and schedule staff training programs (via PEO), including new hire onboarding, safety training (OSHA/Food Safety/Liquor Commission/DOH), hospitality service standards, and supervisory skills
  • Support leadership with coaching and performance reviews
  • Partner with Lodge 616 leadership to implement HR initiatives supporting Lodge mission and goals
  • Lead employee satisfaction efforts and culture development to retain talent
  • Coordinate job descriptions and files to align with PEO records/files
  • Assist department managers with updating job descriptions as needed
  • Support SOP development and policy/procedure updates as directed by the Exalted Ruler
  • Report directly to Lodge Exalted Ruler and carry out supervisory responsibilities per organizational policies and applicable laws
  • Collaborate with department managers to facilitate best practices for interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; and addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as management requests
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and 5 to 7 years of Human Resources experience
  • Ability to speak, read, and write at 400 university level
  • Ability to operate business equipment such as photocopier/scanner/printer and phone system
  • Working knowledge of HR systems
  • Professional Employer Organization experience, and familiarity with HR Symphony application (a plus)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    , including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus Lodge 616 operational related programs
  • SPHR or PHR certification (a plus)
  • Food and beverage industry experience preferred (3 to 4 years)
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly reports to Lodge Exalted Ruler
  • Supervisory responsibilities include collaborating with department managers to support best practices for interviewing, hiring, training, performance planning/appraisal, rewarding and discipline, and complaint resolution
