SMX is seeking a Senior Network Engineer for the Pacific region—a critical leadership role supporting DoD medical facilities across the Pacific. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining highly complex LAN/WLAN/WAN network infrastructures that are vital to military healthcare operations. The Senior Network Engineer serves as the regional authority on network operations, leading the resolution of sophisticated technical challenges across all OSI model layers while ensuring optimal performance, security, and compliance with DoD and DHA standards.
This is the ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in networking protocols (TCP/IP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF), cybersecurity (firewalls, VPNs, Zero Trust), and infrastructure management tools (Solar Winds, ARMIS, Ansible) with strong leadership abilities to guide network specialists and collaborate across military and contractor organizations. This role requires a bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience (or vocational certification with 10+ years), IAM Level III certification per DoD 8570.01, CCNP and CISSP certifications, and proven expertise in Cisco Systems, Windows environments, and DoD healthcare systems.

Support the medical mission of the DoD by ensuring highly complex and technical infrastructure requirements are addressed across the Pacific region
Identify and resolve complex LAN/WLAN/WAN network problems and issues using advanced network management tools and diagnostic techniques
Provide high-level installation, configuration, documentation, management, and troubleshooting of LAN/WLAN/WAN communication equipment for all DHA networked facilities within the Pacific region
Serve as the regional point of contact for network issues, configuration management, communications interconnection, addressing, multi-protocol routing, and network management
Advice and consult with government staff, agencies, and contractor representatives on LAN/WLAN/WAN design, network implementation, deployment, and management to ensure optimal performance and support of the MHS mission
Interface with and lead Network Specialists and coordinate with internal and external organizations to resolve LAN/WLAN/WAN issues
Resolve technical issues associated with network and routing protocols at all levels of the OSI model using diagnostic and network administration tools such as Orion Solar Winds, ARMIS, and Ansible
Research and analyze network-level problems to develop effective solutions that maintain system performance, security, and compliance with DoD standards
Mastery of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, XDM, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, RSTP, VRRP, Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND), EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, Point to Point Protocol (PPP), High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC), V35, and RS-449
Clear understanding of IEEE communications and Internet standards: 8021d, 8021q, 8021w, 8023, 8025, 80210, 80211, 8023u, 8032, and 8023z
Demonstrated understanding and direct experience with synchronous and asynchronous communications, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI, ATM, and other communications mediums used by the DoD and DHA
Experience with Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), cable testers, network sniffers, and EIA/TIA cable standards and specifications
Mastery-level experience in routed, switched, and shared LAN environments operating current supported versions of Microsoft OS, Windows Active Directory, UNIX, and OpenVMS
Expertise with routers, switches, terminal servers, and various local and long-haul WAN connectivity solutions
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related technical discipline with five (5) years of directly related experience;
ORSuccessful completion of a certified Technical or Vocational School with ten (10) years of directly related experience gained through progressively higher levels of complexity
DOD 8570 IAM III Certified Information Systems Security Professional CISSP
Cisco Certified Network Professional CCNP
Experience with DoD Health Care Information Systems is required
Expertise in Windows networks, Cisco Systems, and Orion Solar Winds
Experience with Zero Trust Architectures and Methodologies is desired
