Job Summary

This posting is for Data Processing Systems Analyst positions ranging from Level II to Level IV. The authorized level is Data Processing Systems Analyst IV, with consideration down to Level II if recruiting difficulties arise.

Responsibilities

Plan and carry out fact‑finding tasks to secure information on electronic data processing needs and problems.

Conduct studies related to workflow, time distribution, organizational and functional relationships, forms design, etc.

Meet with and interview personnel across management and operations levels.

Analyze and coordinate subsystems.

Determine the feasibility of converting operations and procedures to electronic data processing.

Analyze procedures from the perspective of feasibility, machine capacity, cost, and related factors.

Prepare comprehensive reports of findings and recommendations.

Develop overall plans and detailed procedures for conversion to machine processing using current technologies, including flow charts and functional block diagrams.

Integrate systems and procedures with agency needs and requirements wherever possible.

Work closely with staff agency representatives in line department settings.

Work closely with operating department representatives in central agency settings.

Prepare and maintain procedural manuals.

Conduct management studies associated with program or management objectives and needs.

Prepare reports of work activities and correspondence.

Review work results and follow through to ensure clearer understanding of problem areas by management and staff.

Provide guidance and assistance in implementing accepted recommendations.

Supervise a group of analysts, programmers, and support personnel as a unit supervisor or team leader.

Coordinate work performed with supervisors of other functional areas.

Train lower‑level analysts as required.

Basic Education Requirement

Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree. Extensive work experience may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis provided it demonstrates comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Experience Requirements

Data Processing Systems Analyst II: 0.5 years specialized experience.
Data Processing Systems Analyst III: 1.5 years specialized experience.
Data Processing Systems Analyst IV: 2.5 years specialized experience.

Specialized Experience

Progressively responsible work experience in computer systems analysis involving analysis and design of systems for electronic data processing or computer programming.

Substitutions Allowed

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related major may substitute for six months of specialized experience.
Master’s degree in information and computer science may substitute for one and a half years of specialized experience.
Doctorate’s degree in information and computer science may substitute for two years of specialized experience.
Excess supervisory experience may substitute for specialized experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Driver’s License Requirement

Some positions may require a current, valid driver’s license.

Lifting Requirement

Some positions may require the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Salary

Salary ranges by level are as follows:

Data Processing Systems Analyst II (Level SR‑18): $4,590.00 – $5,588.00 per month.
Data Processing Systems Analyst III (Level SR‑20): $4,961.00 – $6,043.00 per month.
Data Processing Systems Analyst IV (Level SR‑22): $5,369.00 – $6,535.00 per month.
